Hello and welcome

I’m Steliano Cusmiani, please call me Stel. After a lifetime in tasting wine, selling wine and educating people on wine appreciation, I can't think of a better place to find myself than in beautiful Tasmania.

The Tasmanian grapes, vineyards, wineries, cellar-doors, people, vintages, varieties, history, as well as the landscape and climate, means that there's a lot to tell you about!

In November 2021 StelaVino won the Tasmanian Hospitality Association's "Best Guided Tour in Tasmania" award.

My all-inclusive 1-day Hobart wine tours are perfectly paced so you can soak up the atmosphere, relax and most of all, enjoy the wine.

My wine-Story

As the child of Italian migrants, I was often given a glass of water with a little wine added, to add flavour to the water (something I still do on a hot day). It's been in my blood ever since.

I truly fell in love with Wine in 1976, in New York when I worked at my uncle’s restaurant “Lido da Roma”. One of the young chefs at the restaurant took an eager, young “come waiter” under his wing, teaching me all that he knew about wine. It inspired me to learn more about wine and to experiment. This experience led me into the wine industry when I returned to Australia.

45 years later I am still enjoying a life in wine. My work with the Australian wine industry has always been about appreciation and evaluation.

I have worked for large wine companies to small family wine businesses and household names, like Yalumba, Lindeman's, Seppelt's, McWilliam's and Orlando. I have been lucky enough to have been mentored by some of the greats in the industry, like Len Evans, and

I have always enjoyed learning. At Seppelt’s I worked up from my role as a young sales representative in Sydney’s western suburbs to being their NSW fine wines manager.

These experiences have given me the knowledge and groundwork to later hold major management and educational roles.

I’m often asked, “Why do you do what you do?”. Well, I cannot think of anything better than seeing my guests getting immersed in looking at, smelling and tasting Tasmanian boutique wines.

I love the variety of the interesting people that I meet and, the incredibly variable scenery I see as I drive from region to region.
