North of Hobart on the western bank of the Derwent River, the Derwent Valley is ideally suited for grape growing and wine making – vineyards are laid out close to the river on gentle slopes for cold air drainage and protection against frost. The river magnifies the calming effects of a maritime climate – the tempering effects of large bodies of water. Uncovering the winemaker’s stamp – we may see that the more wine makers there are in a region, then the more the difference between each wine will be revealed, even from the same grape variety. Come and join this day’s adventure to see if you can spot the differences. My aim is to have you looking and sounding like a wine expert by the end of our adventure, if you don’t already.
